It is with mixed emotions that the Board of Trustees of Academy Community Concerts Association (ACCA) announces the departure of Michael Kemp, the founding conductor of Academy Chorale & Orchestra.  Michael will be stepping off the podium at the end of next season, 2018-19.

As a published composer and author of several significant training books for choral directors, Michael’s retirement from Artistic Director and Conductor of ACCA will enable him to devote more time towards sharing his extensive choral conducting expertise through books and workshops focusing on enhancing the skills of volunteer choirs. A member of the legendary Kemp family dynasty of musicians, Michael has always loved bringing beautiful music off the page to inspire performers as well as audience members. In an endeavor to continue that legacy, ACCA has commenced a search for Michael’s successor.

The Academy Chorale & Orchestra are committed to cultivating and enhancing aesthetic understanding, spirit and joy among audiences and participants. Michael has taught us that making beautiful music is a goal far more significant than the individual as it touches the soul in an incredibly deep and profound way. ACCA looks forward to its next season and to many more seasons continuing that mission.
